By Salah Elmonoufy The Egyptian African Investment Company will sign an agreement within in days to build a large sugar factory in the Tanzanian capital, Dar el-Salam with investments amounting to $200m. The Egyptian Ambassador in Tanzania, Hossam El-Din Moharram, stated that the factory would begin to operate in October 2014, noting that production will meet the needs of the Tanzanian market and that the surplus will be exported to Egypt. The Egyptian government will pay to supply two Tanzanian villages with solar power as a gift from the Egyptian people, according to Moharram. The government of Tanzania chose the villages that will receive Egyptian funding, one that lies on an Island in Lake Victoria and the other is in the southern part of the country. The project comes as part of a cooperative programme proposed in the Egyptian Development Initiative for Nile Basin. The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Energy intends on sending a delegation within days to visit the two villages and to develop a plan to implement the solar power project. Egypt has recently completed a number of projects to provide power to a number of villages in southern Sudan as a gift from the Egyptian people. The cost of which amounted to approximately EGP 158 million.
