BRUSSELS: Belgian tour operators announced on Wednesday they would slowly resume flights to Tunisia and Egypt from the weekend as the dust settles after the popular uprisings that toppled leaders of both countries. Jetair and Thomas Cook Belgium will fly Saturday to coastal destinations Djerba and the Enfida region in Tunisia, their websites said. "Things are getting back to normal in Tunisian tourist resorts," Jetair said, although it also said "excursions inland are not yet re-started," in line with Belgian government advice. The government also advises against "non-essential" travel to Egypt, "with the exception of Red Sea coastal resorts," including Sharm El-Sheikh where ousted Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak has been holed up since his departure from office on Friday. Thomas Cook will resume flights there on Monday February 21, and Jetair the next day. Trips to Cairo, Luxor and Nile cruises remain suspended. Both operators are offering discounts of between 30 and 40 percent for travelers wanting to visit both countries.
