Petrojet's Mokhtar fines 'spiritless' players
Published in Daily News Egypt on 04 - 03 - 2009

CAIRO: Petrojet boss Mokhtar Mokhtar fined each of his players LE 10,000, following Tuesday s 3-1 defeat to Masri in the Egyptian Premier League.
During the post-match press conference, head coach Mokhtar expressed his disgruntlement with his team s display in the game that saw the petroleum side extend their winless streak to four matches.
We had problems upfront, in midfield and our rearguard was terrible, the Former Ahly assistant coach said after the game.
We were spiritless and Masri were clearly lucky, that s why we were condemned to an embarrassing defeat.
When asked about the sanction he imposed on his team, Mokhtar said: It s not only about the three points. Players get rewarded when they win, and get sanctioned when they ease off.
He also rued the inconsistency of duo Kamal Ali and Mahmoud Abdel-Hakim over the past weeks.
They have been putting on fluctuating performances for a while. Sometimes they impress and other times they don t, he commented.
On the other hand, Masri coach Bertalan Bicskei emphasized the importance of claiming all three points from the match.
It was a vital home win that helped us move up in the league table, the Hungarian tactician told the press conference. We wasted some opportunities but eventually pulled off an impressive win.
Bicskei dished out praise for his predecessor Hossam Hassan, who was relieved of his position last December.
Hassan managed to build a good team who s able to compete in the league, and now we have a good chance to advance much further, stated Bicskei.
Masri are now seventh in the league table with 29 points, while Petrojet lie fourth with 36.
