Al Ahly signs agreement with Barcelona for April 24 game
CAIRO: During a press conference held in Cairo on Tuesday, Barcelona president Joan Laporta hailed the game of his club against Al Ahly on April 24, saying it was more than an ordinary game due to the sportive, historical and cultural value of both sides.
We already met Al Ahly once in April 1961. We have a chance to repeat this history. Al Ahly and Barcelona are two great clubs and they have a huge culture and history. It's more than a match. said the Spaniard.
Al Ahly has invited the Catalans to play in Cairo Stadium on April 24, as a part of the club s centennial celebration.
It took us a year to fix this date as we had a very busy schedule. We're happy to share Al Ahly his celebration and I thank his board for their warm welcome. In my opinion it will be the beginning of a nice story. We already started talks about a big cooperation in many fields such as marketing, sports, exchange camps and other things added Laporta.
The Barcelona President revealed that a delegation from Al Ahly will come to Barcelona on May or June to agree the final terms and sign the contracts of what he hoped to be a profitable cooperation.
Answering a question if Barcelona will come up with a full squad he said: We have an obligation to bring our stars if there are no injuries. We want to give a good image and I am sure our players will impress because they are champions.
