Consumer rights agency refers two companies to the public prosecutor
Published in Daily News Egypt on 07 - 07 - 2007

CAIRO: The Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency (CPRA) has recently turned in two cases to the public prosecutor's office after receiving several consumer complaints against them.
The companies are El Nahrein institute for importing and exporting and Antos for agricultural development, according to Ibrahim Essam, from the legal consultant's office at CPRA.
"We are careful about the speed with which we solve consumer complaints in a friendly manner and are taking legal action against products that harm the health and well-being of the consumer, said a statement made by Saeed El Alfy, president of CPRA.
The first case, concerning El Nahrein institute, was filed after large amounts of expired, unidentified juice boxes were found by the food provisions and internal trade police. The second one, concerning Antos, was filed after the same authority got its hands on almost one million car parts from unidentified sources without receipts.
"This is the second time we've turned a company over to the prosecutor's office with the help of the provisions police, said Essam.
El Alfy stressed the cooperation and coordination between the prosecutor's office and CPRA regarding turning over all private cases and complaints received by the agency in order to ensure the safety of the consumer and provide him with legal rights and protection.
He added that the agency usually solves consumer complaints in a friendly manner, but are sometimes forced to resort to legal action in cases harmful to the general public.
