Last Friday, the American University in Cairo's downtown campus celebrated its 13th annual Volunteers in Action charity event, featuring revered Egyptian music composer and pianist Omar Khairat. The event was sponsored exclusively by Housing and Development Bank. Volunteers in Action (VIA) was established 13 years ago to work with orphans in and around Cairo. The organization is comprised of 150 students from different universities across the city. Programs focus on visiting underprivileged children, overcoming illiteracy, providing housing and supplies to newlywed orphans, and micro-credit projects. Among this year's attendees were Dr Fathy Sorour, speaker of the People's Assembly; Fathy El-Sebai, chairman and managing director of the Housing and Development Bank; Hussein Sabour, president of the Shooting Club; famous TV presenter Wael El-Ibrashy and young actress Mona Hala./p
