RAMALLAH: On Tuesday, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak entered Gaza through its land border with Egypt. The PM declared the visit as being of humanitarian nature and a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people. “This is a humanitarian visit to express our deep concerns for what happens to the Palestinian people in Gaza and to express our opposition to the aggression on Gaza,” he told Al Jazeera. The visit has brought ire from officials in the occupied West Bank, who view themselves as the official representatives of the Palestinian people. During a reception at the Abdul-Aziz al-Rantisi Hospital, the wife of the Prime Minister, who joined him on his visited, announced that Malaysia would be donating $800,000 for two healthcare projects reports Ma'an News. Razak is the second foreign premier to visit Gaza in violation of the five year Israeli blockade. The first was Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa al-Than, the emir of Qatar, who promised $400 million for development of infrastructure. The third will be MoncefMarzouki, the Tunisian president, in early February. Before leaving Gaza, Razak laid the first stone in a Malaysian funded school. BN
