CAIRO: Microsoft's latest operating system officially launched over the weekend in Egypt and has many IT experts exciting at the opportunity to be one of the first to use the new software. Egypt was one of only 19 countries that saw Windows 8 launch in their countries this month and Microsoft said it “worked on bringing Windows 8's new features closer to the Egyptian mindset and simultaneously, worked on supporting the local tourism sector." In a statement, Microsoft added that it was “the most powerful product launch in the history of Microsoft Egypt." At the launch, software engineer Mohamed Hossam told Bikyamasr.com that he was optimistic that it would deliver as expected. “I think it will be a great new product that will enable all engineers to work quicker and with a more stress-free environment that has been needed for a long time in Egypt and around the world," he said. “The ‘revamped' Windows 8 offers a new, more efficient user interface and a refurbished Start screen based on Live Tiles, a touch-friendly Internet Explorer 10, and built-in Cloud capabilities with SkyDrive that allow the user to easily share images and documents," Microsoft said. “Additionally, this product marks the launch of Windows Store, the parallel substitute for Google Play and Apple's App Store," it said. Since it was launched in the United States at the end of last month, Microsoft has reported over four million operating systems have been purchased.
