DUBAI: Saudi Arabia's Mobily has posted dramatic data volume growth as a result of this year's Islamic pilgrimage, or Hajj, the company said on Monday. The company said its network recorded a 502 percent growth in data volumes at holy sites during the 2012 Hajj season and 101 percent growth in data in the Central Area of the Grand Mosque, compared to the 2011 Hajj. Mobily attributed the growth to “its steady infrastructure and to the recent network upgrades that were conducted in the Mecca region.” As part of its social responsibility program, Mobily enabled free Internet access for all pilgrims through its Wi-Fi network in Mina, Muzdalifah and Arafat. Mobily also announced that “an increase was registered in the volume of the international minutes in Mecca and Medina.” Mecca recorded 68 percent growth while Medina saw 82 percent growth compared with the same period of last year.
