CAIRO: Egyptian drug enforcement busted the largest amount of marijuana in the country's history when it stopped a drug trafficking operation in Sinai carrying 15 tons of the drug. The drugs were seized while the truck carrying them crossed under the Suez Canal tunnel. The amount is considered to be one of the highest on record in the world and the biggest so far in Egypt. The driver was detained and is being held under investigation to uncover who was behind the trafficking from Sinai to the inner parts of the country along the Nile River. The UN crime and drug body said the bust is number 45 in the world's history and the 12th largest since 2010. Marijuana, or as it is locally known Bango, is a popular drug among youth and adults alike. Its relatively cheap prices contributes to its widespread use across the country.
