BANGKOK: In the latest crackdown on counterfeit goods in Thailand, customs officials reported they had seized goods worth over 18 million baht ($572,000), which were being smuggled into the country. Prayuth Maneechote, director of Thailand's Customs Office Region 4, was quoted by the Thai News Agency as saying “the pirated goods included handbags, sunglasses, shoes, clothes and jeans carrying brand names such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel and Prada.” The products were meant to be sold for local and international tourists in Phuket. It comes as the government has announced numerous plans to curtail the illegal selling of counterfeit products in the country, especially in tourist heavy areas such as Phuket.
