CAIRO: Egypt's border security reported that they have confiscated 1.6 million ‘Tramadol' narcotic pills on the Egyptian-Libyan border near the oasis of Siwa in the western desert. Police suspected two land cruiser vehicles of sneaking into the Egyptian side and decided to chase them down. Police said the smugglers jumped from one car to the next, leaving one with the drugs behind and fled back to Libya. Police added that the car chase ended arrested at point 72 south of Siwa. Smuggling along the border with Libya has increased in recent years since the end of the violent conflict in Libya. Reports of guns being smuggled into Egypt have led to fears that the porous border along Egypt's Western side is largely unprotected and is seeing illicit activity increase between both sides.
