CAIRO: Egypt presidential finalist and military strongman Ahmed Shafiq's campaign announced him the victor in the country's election run-off with a 51 percent. It came a day after Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi's campaign said he would be the winner with around 52 percent of the vote. The campaign held a press conference on Tuesday asking their supporters to “feel happy and celebrate” their candidate's win. They refused to announce any voting counts and affirmed that they are ahead. “All the figures announced by the rival campaign have put a personal effort into counting the numbers, but they are wrong and unofficial,” the campaign told reporters on Tuesday afternoon. “Rejoice and be happy about the results, they are in our favor.” Both campaigns have now announced victory in the race, however the official results will be announced on Thursday after the vote tally is completed. Morsi's supporters already began celebrating in Tahrir Square in downtown Cairo and other main squares across the country following the initial results that showed Morsi leading with around one million vote difference.
