India police arrest pimp who sold 13-year-old girl to a maid agency

NEW DELHI: India's police on Monday arrested a pimp who sold off a 13-year-old girl to a maid placement agency in New Delhi. The girl was locked in a closed home for several days, while her employers, a doctor-teacher couple were holidaying in Thailand.
Police in West Bengal said that the pimp Kamal Das had tried to pass off the girl as 17-years-old before selling her for several thousand rupees to the placement agency.
The trapped girl was discovered on March 28 after a non government organization in Delhi Shakti Vahini complained to the police about her being locked in house of Anil Kumar Gupta's a renowned cardio-thoracic and vascular surgeon in the Kirti nagar area of New Delhi.
“The girl was placed as a maid through the placement agency operating illegally in the Chirag Delhi area. She did all the household chores, but was not paid a single penny for her service,” commissioner of police West Delhi V Renganathan told reporters.
The police in Kolkata have already booked a criminal complaint against Das and others under sections 363 and 366 of the Indian Penal Code.
