Bangladesh men on trial in UAE for forcing maid into prostitution
Published in Bikya Masr on 01 - 02 - 2012

DUBAI: The Dubai Court of First Instance on Tuesday began hearing the case of three Bangladeshi men accused of forcing an Indonesian maid into prostitution.
Emirates 24/7 reported that the three men are being tried for human trafficking and running a brothel in the Hor al-Anz area of the city.
Others accused in the same case remain at large.
The 36-year-old Indonesian woman was working for an African family in the country before she told her ordeal of being abused by her employers to a Banladeshi woman, named as only Salma, who encouraged her to run away and promised her work in exchange.
According to reports, the maid had worked for another family previously for 7 months and when she had requested a new placement she was told there were only limited opportunities and was placed with the family.
She told police that she had been denied food.
The Bangladeshi woman apparently promised her a housemaid job with Dh1,500 monthly salary, of which she would take a Dh300 cut per month, the Emirati daily website said.
“Salma allegedly lodged her at her home and gave her an abaya, bag, head cover and cosmetics and groomed her well,” the report stated.
But then, the Indonesian woman was taken to a traditional home where the two defendants were allegedly waiting for her. They threatened her with a beating if she did not submit to their demands.
According to the house worker, she was forced to have sex with 10 men on the first day of her ordeal. She was then locked in a room and forbidden to leave.
She finally escaped days later and reported what had happened to the police, who took action and raided the brothel.
