Egypt's Abu Ismail “a sci-fi phenomenon” says candidate Bothaina Kamel
Published in Bikya Masr on 01 - 04 - 2012

CAIRO: Prominent Media Figure and Presidential Hopeful Bothaina Kamel said that the upcoming presidential elections will be a “farce and will be subjected to the approval of the military junta” over their results, stressing the need to evaluate the presidential candidates according to their history and their attitudes away from their similar electoral programs.
Kamel, questioned during the first Conference of the Egyptian Women's Movement for Change in the Beheirah Governorate on Wednesday, which was held at the Doctors' Union, the sources of funding for the campaign of Presidential Candidates, particularly firebrand Salafist Preacher Hazem Salah Abu Ismail, which she described as a “phenomenon” similar to “science fiction movies,” due to “the huge propaganda and posters of him everywhere.”
However, she continued: “if I have to choose between Abu Ismail or presidential candidate Amr Moussa, I would choose the first immediately.”
Kamel added that the continuation of the military rule in governing the country is a crime against the people of Egypt, because it is a “depletion of the ability and prestige of the armed forces, and involving it in irrelevant matters,” pointing out that a clash will occur inevitably between the military and the Muslim Brotherhood due to their different objectives and goals.
Regarding the role of women in political life, she argued that there is a deliberate distortion being practiced against women's participation in this area, especially the distortion of women's role in participating in protests.
Kamel announced at the conference an initiative for the education of girls in rural communities and appealed to all patriotic forces to support them financially and morally for the success of the initiative.
