Arabic: بثينة كامل Bothaina Kamel is a former talk show hostess who now runs campaigns for a better future for Egypt. She has named herself as a candidate for Egypt's first presidential race after the ousting of 30-year president Hosni Mubarak. So far, she is the only woman to announce her candidacy. Kamel was previously married to Emad Abu Ghazi, currently Egypt's Minsiter of Culture. Kamel says she believes transparency is important in Egypt after almost three decades of suppression. She plans to create a reality show on TV to follow her electoral campaign to create more awareness and openness. Kamel hosted a program on state television called Night Confessions in which callers phoned in to confess. A state committee banned the TV program, claiming it was ruining Egypt's reputation and implied all Egyptians were mixed up in sinful affairs. Kamel broke with state television around the time of the 2005 parliamentary and presidential elections, when she joined the 'shayfen.com' - We're Watching You - campaign to help monitor elections. Kamel says she plans to tackle corruption and nepotism in Egypt. She says she is able to reach out to Egyptians on a more personal lever and better understand their problems and demands than other potential candidates, all of whom are male. Kamel says she does not only focus on women's right, but the right of all Egyptians equally.
