CAIRO: Potential presidential nominee Bothaina Kamel has called for the formation of an independent body to monitor and fight corruption in Egypt. “The already existing body is under the supervision of the president so there is a need to have an independent active one,” Kamel said at a conference on Monday focusing on fighting corruption. She added that in order for the fight against corruption to be won, a free committee must be “born to watch over corruption issues.” Kamel is active in fighting corruption across the country and founded “Shayfenko,” or “we can see you,” movement to monitor the Egyptian elections in 2005. Kamel, a former TV and radio host, has announced her candidacy for Egypt's top job, making her the first Egyptian woman ever to be a presidential nominee. BM
