CAIRO: Egyptian presidential hopeful Bothaina Kamel has gone on hunger strike to support Laila Soueif, detained Egyptian blogger Alaa Abdel Fattah's mother, who has been on hunger strike for eight days now. Bothaina tweeted, "I will join my dear friend and role model Laila Soueif in going on hunger strike starting November 18 to get their (protesters') right or die like they did." Bothaina told Youm7 the hunger strike was not only for Alaa Abdel Fattah, but for all Egyptian bloggers tried in military courts. She added that the former regime's ways were still present in Egypt. "We are still at the beginning of the road." She tweeted. The presidential candidate condemned the military council's decree prosecuting more than 12,000 civilians before military courts. She also said this matter did not even happen during ousted President Hosni Mubarak's era. The Egyptian people have struggled against a 60 year old military rule that started after the 1952 Revolution, she added. The Military Prosecution on Sunday renewed Abdel Fattah's imprisonment for a further 15 days for investigation. Abdel Fattah has since insisted on not answering the investigators' questions.
