SANA'A: In Yemen's Taiz, the southern epicenter of the revolutionary movement, which oversaw the ouster of President Ali Abdullah Saleh after three decades in power, is once again calling on protesters to rally and demonstrate against the non-implementation of the GCC brokered power-transfer. Under the terms of the initiative, newly elected President Abdu Rabbo Mansout Hadi was charged with the restructuring of the army, which so far remains under the control of Saleh, with his family members firmly heading key strategic posts. It is actually this very network which allowed President Saleh to remain the undisputed leader of Yemen for so many years. On Tuesday, marches were organized through the city, demanding the immediate departure of Taiz governor, who people accuse of corruption as well as the demotion of all Saleh's loyalists from the armed forces. “We need to end the regime once and for all. Cutting the head of the snake was not enough we need to dismantle it all if we are to succeed in the building of a real civil state,” said Aref al-Areeki a local engineer. Protesters took their march to the presidential palace where they stood defiant, warning the government that if they had managed to engineer the fall of one regime they could do the same again. The march's organizers also told Bikyamasr.com that they were tired of living in such a state of insecurity, accusing the government of allowing known “criminals” to remain in power when it knew they had had a hand in the killing of unarmed and peaceful protesters during last year spell of violence. “We are still awaiting justice. The coalition government and the President himself promised to address our grievances and look into all infractions committed against civilians during the uprising. Yet nothing has been done. We have been patient enough and now is the time to make our voices heard again. “When will they understand that the people of Yemen will no longer bow down to injustice? We are here to stay, we will prevail, for we have right on our side,” said al-Areeki. BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/VJIwF Tags: March, Protest, Taiz, Yemen Section: Latest News, Yemen
