WASHINGTON (dpa) – The US Federal Reserve's Open Market Committee left interest rates unchanged Following a Tuesday meeting in Washington. The rate-setting central bank has kept its key federal funds rate at zero to 0.25 per cent since December 2008, when the US economy was contracting sharply during the global financial crisis. In January, the Fed said it expected to maintain “exceptionally low” levels until at least late 2014, beyond the mid-2013 timetable already announced last year.
