SINGAPORE: At least four construction workers were killed in a wall collapse incident in northern Philippines, police reported on Saturday. Four other workers were also injured in the accident Friday in an industrial park in Angeles City of Pampanga province, 75 kilometers north of Manila. The workers were building the wall for a pharmaceutical company when a “sudden strong wind” swept through the area, causing the 25-meter-wide structure to fall, the police report said. Safety concerns have plagued many construction sites in the Philippines, where workers sometimes are not equipped with protective gear and safety standards are low. The incident has prompted workers' rights groups in the country to call for greater implementation of regulation in order to give workers a better and more secure working environment. They said the wall collapsed and killed the workers due to negligence on the part of the superintendent.
