CAIRO: Ashraf el-Refai, Egypt's assistant to the head of the Forensic Authorities said on Wednesday that their team had examined 11 bodies of the 15 dead as a result of the security violence against protesters in the vicinity of the Ministry of Interior in downtown Cairo. Their findings said security forces used live ammunition, birdshot and rubber bullets in addition to the massive amounts of tear gas. Refai said that 9 of those who were killed during the clashes that broke out between the police and protesters last Thursday and ended on Tuesday, died as a result of being shot with 6mm birdshot, while two others were killed after being shot with live ammunition. Egypt's Health Ministry announced on Tuesday that the death toll of the recent clashes had risen to 15 people, during protests to denounce the massacre at Port Said`s stadium where more than 75 Ultras (football fans) were killed and hundreds more injured following a football match. The Minister of Interior Mohamed Ibrahim continues to insist that police forces only used tear gas, and did not use birdshot, while several videos on YouTube and eyewitnesses proved injuries with birdshot, including the head of the Doctors Union who said he was shot with birdshot during a visit to field hospitals on Monday. The ministry also maintains its position despite a parliamentary fact-finding committee`s request to withdraw confidence from the Minister after evidence of munitions came to light.
