DUBAI: Kuwaiti customs at the country's airport reported to have arrested a man who had been attempting to smuggle drugs into the country inside frozen ducks and pigeons, the daily newspaper al-Rai reported on Tuesday. The man, identified as an Arab man, reportedly was attempting to smuggle hashish opium and marijuana into the country. He hid one kilogram of hashish, two opium cigarettes and 1,000 Tramadol tablets in the frozen animals in his suitcase. The man was then arrested upon suspicious behavior and has his luggage searched by customs officials, the newspaper said. He works at a local restaurant in Kuwait. “Our teams have been trained according to the highest standards to foil attempts to smuggle drugs into the country as we seek to keep it clean of their poisons,” Sulaiman Al Fahad, the customs supervisor, told the daily. Drug crimes carry substantial jail time in Kuwait, but it is unclear if the man will be tried and on what charges, as police and the prosecution have yet to make a public statement on the smuggling attempt.
