CAIRO - International Airport officials have seized 11 kilos of hashish, which a Syrian man tried to smuggle into the country, police said on Sunday. They added that 11 kilos of pure hashish were seized from a drugs dealer coming from Damascus on board of an EgyptAir plane. It was one of the biggest drugs hauls in 2010, the police said, adding that the customs officials found the hashish sachets inside a secret compartments in the man's luggage. The man, whose name was not disclosed, could be sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to pay a hefty fine if convicted, judicial sources said on Sunday. The man has been detained on drugs smuggling charges, the officials said. "About 11 kilograms of pure hashish were seized when the man was arrested at Cairo airport upon his arrival from Damascus," the officials said. Police said the drugs would have a street value in Egypt of at least 2.7 million Egyptian pounds.
