LAGOS: A leading computer company executive said that companies should be looking into creating cloud technology in multiple cities in order to boost wireless capabilities. Leo Stan Ekeh, the chairman of Zinox Group, Nigeria's top computer manufacturing company, said in an interview with Leadership Newspapers that the government should look at subsidizing the expansion of digital activity, re-training and re-educating the unemployed to enable better training for the ICT community. He said that in Nigeria, “awareness grew over 17 percent when you compare to 2010,” which in his view was representative by the number of laptops that were visible in the country. But he said that in order to increase the digital explosion, there must be more maturity in the market. “We already have the infrastructure, all we need now is more partnerships with the major telecom operators so that cost of connectivity will be reduced by about 50 per cent so that the poor can have access without huge cash outlay for connectivity and government could also spend about N500 billion in automating the school system, refurbishing the school system because in doing so you have to put content and the content you put is ICT platform because we now have a new Nigeria,” said Ekeh. The computer boss argued that there is money to be invested in the sector and through using new technologies being introduced there is a great deal of “mobility” that can be created in the sector to boost economic progress in the coming months through delivering IT to the rural areas of the country.
