Singapore (dpa) – A Singapore animal lover who has been taking care of hundreds of abandoned cats and dogs over the past eight years is seeking adoptive families for 165 animals as the lease for her house was set to expire in February, a news report said earlier this month. In her three-room terrace house, Phyllis Aw, 54, had taken care of up to 440 cats and dogs at one point, the Straits Times newspaper reported. But in a statement in November on the social-networking site Facebook, Aw said her landlord, a church she did not name, would not renew her lease and “nothing much could be done.” Aw said she had been paying a preferential lease and could understand the landlord's decision, given the current economic climate, the newspaper reported. She relied on donations and income from several part-time jobs to care for the animals, spending about 7,000 Singapore dollars (5,400 US dollars) a month, excluding medical costs, the report said. Aw also has had health problems, which have made it difficult to continue her animal shelter, it said. dpa BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/Ktn1q Tags: Cats, Dogs, Rescue, Singapore Section: Animals, East Asia
