Published in Bikya Masr on 06 - 11 - 2011

Last night the titans of the SEC clashed, there were battles in the Big12, and the Huskers tumbled. Here's the Round Up:
No. 1 LSU went into Tuscaloosa and knocked out No. 2 Alabama in overtime 9-6. The game was a defensive showcase which did not see either team break into the end zone. LSU quarterbacks Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson combined for just 91 yards on 9 of 17 passing and 2 interceptions but a strong outing from running back Michael Ford kept the Tigers in the game. Bama RB Trent Richardson accounted for 169 total yards including 89 yards on the ground. The story of the game was Alabama's kicking game which missed 4 field goals including a 52 yarder in the extra period. The 15 points scored were the 2nd lowest total for a 1 vs. 2 match up all-time.
Key Performers:
RB Trent Richardson ALA 23 carries 89 yards
RB Michael Ford LSU 11 carries 72 yards
No. 3 Oklahoma State Cowboys gunned down No. 14 Kansas State 52-45 in Stillwater. If you wanted to see touchdowns this was the game to watch. Brandon Weeden threw for 502 yards and 4 scores along with 2 interceptions. 2010 Biletnikoff winner Justin Blackmon had 13 grabs for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Wildcats tied the game at 45 on a Collin Klein 12 yard run with 3:15 left in the fourth but Joseph Randle punched in a 23 yard run to put the Cowboys on top for good.
Key Performers:
QB Brandon Weeden OKST 36/46 502 yards 4 TDs 2 INTs
WR Justin Blackmon OKST 13 catches 205 yards 2 TDs
QB Collin Klein KSU 22/38 231 yards 1 TD 1 INT 29 carries 144 yards 3 TDs
No. 10 Nebraska took it on the chin at home against unranked Northwestern falling to the Wildcats 25-28. Northwestern starting QB Dan Persa sustained a shoulder injury in the first half and had to sit out which allowed back up Kain Colter to take his shot against the Cornhuskers. Colter finished with 115 yards passing and a TD and ran for 57 yards and 2 scores including one with a minute and a half left to put the game out of reach. Nebraska QB Taylor Martinez had a good game with 289 yards and 2 scores but Northwestern kept making the big plays when it mattered and pulled off the upset in Lincoln.
Key Performers:
QB Kain Colter NW 4/6 115 yards 1 TD 17 carries 57 yards 2 TDs
