Published in Bikya Masr on 18 - 09 - 2011

CAIRO: Microsoft announced on Thursday the promotion of Ali Faramawy to Corporate Vice President Microsoft Corporation and President for Microsoft Middle East & Africa.
As corporate vice president, Faramawy will be responsible for Microsoft's operations in the Middle East & Africa (MEA) region, one of thirteen areas that comprise Microsoft's worldwide operations.
Microsoft MEA has 32 offices representing 79 countries across three continents. Faramawy has led the region for seven years and in that time has consistently proven his ability to drive impact at the highest levels and for long term growth in the region. Ali Faramawy's previous title was Vice President Microsoft International and President – Microsoft Middle East & Africa.
“Ali's inspirational leadership and commitment to Microsoft and the MEA region have won him the respect of colleagues, customers and partners,” said Jean-Philippe Courtois, President, Microsoft International.
“He has achieved impressive results by building deep partnerships with governments, businesses and communities across MEA. I am confident Ali will continue to serve as an outstanding ambassador for Microsoft, helping people and businesses realize their full potential. “
Microsoft said the MEA region is one of its fastest growing and most dynamic markets and “certainly its most diverse.”
“I am very proud to be a part of Microsoft in the Middle East and Africa right now, during a time of great challenge and opportunity for the region. There is incredible potential in MEA with its young population. We will continue to focus on the acceleration of talent development, equipping them with the right tools, opportunities, knowledge and infrastructure, as a skilled and well-trained workforce is essential for economic growth and stability.” Faramawy said in an announcement commenting on the promotion.
