CAIRO: The National Assembly for Change has left the coordinating committee of the revolution after committee members criticized the ongoing demonstrations in Cairo's Tahrir Square. According to daily newspaper youm7.com, the assembly announced its withdrawal on Tuesday after the coalition refused to back down on its earlier statements regarding the sit-in. The assembly, made up of youth coalitions, said in a statement that the coordinating committee would “ruin the image of the revolution and undermine its credibility in front of Egyptians to achieve personal objectives.” According to the newspaper's report, the National Assembly for Change was upset over committee members' meetings with Prime Minister Essam Sharaf and their participation in forming a new government, portraying themselves as representatives of those protesting in Cairo's Tahrir Square. The statement added that the committee was not participating in the sit-in and “had no right to portray themselves as representatives of the protesters.” The assembly demanded the transitional government and the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to deal with its leaders as a confident national power that enjoys credibility among Egyptians.
