A call for a religious solidarity demonstration on Friday will not involve a sit-in, a revolution group announced Wednesday. The 25 January Revolution People's Coordination Committee said in a statement that the demonstrations will begin at 11 am in Tahrir Square with a Christian mass followed by Friday prayers for Muslims. The call for protest comes after sectarian clashes in the Cairo neighborhood of Imbaba on Saturday killed 15 and injured more than 240 people. The violence prompted a government examination of religious tension and security forces' response. National figures will address the demonstrators after prayers and the gathering will end at 5 pm, the statement said. The committee stressed there are no plans to spend the night in the square. In the statement, the committee listed demands that include prosecuting instigators of sectarian strife, enforcing the law indiscriminately and sending former President Hosni Mubarak, his family and all figures accused of corruption to fair trials. Other demands include removing officials affiliated with Mubarak's regime, such as current Deputy Cabinet Minister Yehia al-Gamal, and disbanding municipal councils, which the statement said were proven to have been involved in fueling sectarian unrest. The statement also called for releasing all protesters who were detained on 9 March and received military rulings, in addition to releasing other political detainees. The coordination committee comprises several groups, such as the Muslim Brotherhood, the January 25 Revolution Youth Coalition, Egypt Revolutionary Youth Coalition, the National Association for Change, Board of Trustees of the Revolution, the Free Egypt Coalition, and the Independent Academics.
