CAIRO: The Attorney General of Appeals in Alexandria issued a warrant for the arrest of two state security officers accused of murdering a Salafi man following the All Saint's church bombing earlier this year. Said Belal, 32, a member of a Salafi group – those who adhere to a literal interpretation of the Qur'an – in Alexandria was arrested and accused of having a hand in the bombing. He then died in the police station from what rights groups say was torture. Belal was moved to a nearby hospital where he died from his wounds. An unnamed source told local Egyptian press on Saturday that the initial investigation showed no relation between Belal and the bombing. In other news, a police officer, who is suspected to have killed protesters in Suez, was gunned down earlier Saturday in Giza. Local reports said that the officer, identified as Mohamed Zein, was transferred from Suez to Cairo after the January 25 uprising and many believe the killing to be an act of vengeance. It comes as protesters in Suez and Cairo continue to escalate their demonstrations against the military. In Suez, a few thousand protesters have marched toward the Suez Canal, threatening to shut down the international thoroughfare, while demonstrators in Cairo's Tahrir Square have said they will enter a hunger strike if their demands are not met.
