CAIRO: Mark Tullo shot a 6-under 66 on Saturday to come from behind and win the Egyptian Open, his second victory on the European Challenge Tour this season. Tullo finished at 13-under and won by one stroke over Floris De Vries, who shot a one-under 71, and third-round leader George Murray, who managed an even-par 72 in the final round. Tullo captured the Rolex Trophy in mid-August and Saturday's first-place check will all but guarantee the Chile native a spot on the European Tour next year. He should be in the top five in earnings on the Challenge Tour when the money list is tabulated on Monday. Next week is the final event on the Challenge Tour schedule. The Apulia San Domenico Grand Final is reserved for the top 45 on the money list with the top 20 getting European Tour cards next season. Lee Slattery shot a one-under 71 and took fourth at minus-10. Lorenzo Gagli (68), Daniel Gaunt (68) and Scott Jamieson (69) tied for fifth at nine-under 279. Rory McIlroy, ranked ninth in the world, made a rare appearance on the Challenge Tour. He shot a four-under 68 on Saturday and shared 12th place at minus-six. His appearance was an attempt to garner interest in the Egyptian event and despite a poor opening round, he managed to give the gallery glimpses of his talent. BM
