US: Animal rights activists raid Molalla deer farm A posting from the Animal Liberation Front claims responsibility for a raid on a Molalla deer farm. Owner Richard Bentley said he has roughly 80 European Fallow deer that he raises for meat. He said said not a single animal left the property. There were no deer on the land where the fence was cut, despite ALF claims. A website posting attributed to the group stated, “a large section of fencing was stripped away allowing the captive deer herd a chance to escape into the surrounding forest.” Malaysia: Animal Lovers Outraged By Photo Of Hanged Puppy Various animal welfare organizations are outraged over the publication of a photograph of a puppy which was hanged, in the social website Twitter. The Malaysian Animal Rights Society lodged a report at the Brickfields police headquarters today, urging the police to take action against two men who published the photograph, several days ago. Society president N. Surendran said the duo should be charged under the Animals Act 1953 (2006 Amendment) for animal abuse. Canada: UVic bunnies to be fenced in A handful of former University of Victoria bunnies that escaped a government-approved sanctuary in Coombs last month remained on the lam this week as animal rights volunteers raced to meet a Thursday deadline for the installation of a rabbit-proof barrier around the entire facility. “I'm at the site right now tracking some errant rabbits and co-ordinating some fencing that's still left to do,” said Susan Vickery of the Earth Animal Humane Education and Rescue Society, which took in about 270 relocated UVic rabbits last month. Ireland: Anti-fur protest held in Dublin Shoppers in Dublin's city center were met with the sight of animal rights activists doused in red paint today as they held an anti-fur protest. Two women held posters depicting a dog raccoon, which campaigners said was skinned alive on a fur farm in China. “Most people who wear fur today are people who just don't know what goes on behind the scenes,” Animal Rights Action Network campaign coordinator John Carmody said. “They're almost always skinned alive because there's no way of killing them with anesthetic individually – it would take too much time so it's literally like a production line.” He said the protest, which is due to be repeated in all of Ireland's major cities, has two aims. Wanted/Kick-Ass Creator Millar Directing Animal Rights Superhero Movie Mark Millar, the comic book writer behind the likes of Kick-Ass and Wanted, is making his directorial debut with a low-budget, handheld movie called Miracle Park. True to form, the project involves superheroes, mature content, and the scribe's native Scotland. Here's the official update - “Set in contemporary Scotland, this dark, unique superhero story focuses on a group of animal rights activists who break into a low-level research laboratory to find a mile-long underground base owned and facilitated by the US government. Described as The X-Men meets Trainspotting, Miracle Park breaks all the taboos of superhero cinema and offers a completely new take on the genre. BM
