Riviera waterfront project in Morocco Mourjan Marinas IGY, the luxury developer and manager of marinas and yachting destinations based in Dubai, has allied with the Moroccan investment firm Libra Capital to start the master plan for an exclusive waterfront project in the southwest of Morocco including hotels, golf courses, retail and dining outlets, and a marina with a substantial number of berths for mega yachts. Mourjan Marinas IGY will lead marine environmental studies, commercial viability, and feasibility studies ahead of construction of the Riviera Waterfront project. Michael Horrigan, CEO of Mourjan Marinas IGY, said, ”It is with great pleasure that we start work with Libra Capital to ensure successful and smooth operations in the run up to the construction, development, and management of this world class venture for Morocco.” Ex-Guantanamo detainee charged in native Algeria A former Guantanamo detainee who was transferred to his native Algeria earlier this month has been indicted, the Algiers prosecutor's office said Monday. Aziz Abdul Naji was also placed under judicial supervision Sunday, the office said in a statement, though it did not say what he had been charged with or what the supervision entailed. Naji was transferred to Algeria on July 18. Captured in Pakistan in 2002 and held in Guantanamo, Naji fought his repatriation, saying he feared he would be mistreated or even killed in Algeria. President Ben Ali reaffirms Tunisia's commitment to promote joint African action In an address read on his behalf on Monday by Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Kamel Morjane on the occasion of the 15th African Union Summit in Kampala, Uganda, President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali reiterated “Tunisia's commitment to promote joint African action” with a view to enhance solidarity and complementarity among African countries. In his address to the Summit held under the theme “Maternal, Infant, and Child Health and Development in Africa”, President Ben Ali said that health in Tunisia is “a fundamental element of development”, adding that in line with the Millennium Development Goals, the country is striving to reduce the maternal mortality rate to 20 per 100,000 childbirths by 2014. Korea-Libya relations soured for intelligence activities Libya has deported a South Korean intelligence agent working at the Korean Embassy in the African nation last month for allegedly gathering information related to North Korea and the arms industry, a diplomatic source said Tuesday. South Korea's relations with Libya has been put to the test due to the deportation of the agent, as the Libyan government also pulled out three staffers working at the Economic Cooperation Bureau of Libya based in Seoul in protest. African Union wants alternative for Sudan's Bashir The African Union has criticized the issuance of arrest warrant by the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC) against Omar al-Bashir, present President of the Sudan, for war crimes and genocide, saying it was “undermining African solidarity and African peace and security”. Malawian president Bingu wa Mutharika, who holds the rotating African Union presidency, urged the continent's leaders at Monday's opening session of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CENSAD) summit in the Ugandan capital of Kampala, to explore ways to resolve the conflict in the Sudan without the need to have Bashir arrested.
