Private Lessons Occupies 42% of Egyptian Families Expenditures

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics has revealed that 42.1 % of annual expenditures incurred by Egyptian families with regard to education is spent on private lessons and the sessions held to help students with the curriculum. These expenditures reach up to 3.47% in urban society, compared to 9.39% in rural areas.
According to a survey conducted today by the Agency to define the expenses of education in light of the data of income survey, expenditure and consumption in 2008/2009- 2010/2011, the percentage of annual expenditure on education incurred by families whose members are still studying recorded 6.4% of the total annual household expenditures.
The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics added that the average annual household expenditure on education recorded EGP 3706, pointing out that average expenditures in urban society reached triple the number recorded by rural areas which amounted to 1932. The Agency added that the average expenditure on the student in all stages of education amounted to EGP 762, highlighting that the number recorded by the urban community exceeded that of the countryside by four times.
Moreover, the survey stated that the percentage of annual household expenditure on tuition fees reached 8.38% of the total expenditures on education which amounted to 4.44% in urban society compared to 1.25% in rural society. According to the survey, transportation fees represented the lowest percentage with regard to education expenditures.
