Renowned Egyptian actress Amal Farid dies at 80

Born 12 February 1938 in Cairo in Abbaseya district, and a graduate of sociology, Amal Farid's career was launched on the hands of Baba Sharo (Mohamed Mahmoud Shaaban) when she was taken to his radio show for children in the early 1950s.
The many iconic roles in the cinema followed. She soon began receiving the roles in the cinema often acting beside the great names such as Abdel Halim Hafez and Ahmed Ramzi.
She then began receiving the leading female roles.
Amal Farid's filmography includes Banat El yom (1957), Seraa Maal Hayat (1957), Min Ajal Emraa (1959), Ismail Yassine Fil Tayyaran (1959), Banat bahari (1961), Zekrayat el talmaza (1965), Guezireh El-Oshak (1968).
She gave up on the artistic career in the late 1960s and moved to live with her husband, in Moscow. She only returned to the cinema to act in a few roles yet this path did not sustain.
Farid spent her final years in an elderly house in Cairo and went through a surgery earlier this year. Despite reported improvement of health, her condition began to deteriorate in past weeks and she passed away in the morning hours of Tuesday, in Cairo's hospital.
