Egyptian powerlifters Randa Mahmoud and Mohamed Eldib added to Egypt's coffers at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games, winning two gold medals. Mahmoud, who competed in the women's 86kg event, comfortably won Egypt's second gold medal, taking the top spot with a 130kg effort. In second place was Jordan's Tharwah Alhajaj who produced a 119kg effort in her final attempt. The Egyptian powerlifter previously won two silver medals in Beijing 2008 and London 2012. "I am very happy to get the gold medal today and it makes me even happier to see the Egyptian flag as the highest flag," said Mahmoud after her achievement, adding that she will continue in her efforts to break the world record of 137kg. Meanwhile, in the men's 97kg event, Mohamed Eldib similarly impressed, clearing 237kg with his final attempt. Though Eldib appeared, for a moment, to break his own world record with a 244kg effort, the attempt was dismissed by referees. Eldib set the world record at 243kg during a World Cup event held last year in Dubai. On Monday, Egypt's Amany Ali won the country's seventh medal, winning a bronze medal in the women's 73kg event.
