President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Tuesday with Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Italian energy company Eni, to review ongoing operations and strategic projects in Egypt's gas sector. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy. It focused on enhancing cooperation in exploration, production, and infrastructure development, including the connection of the Cypriot Kronos gas field to Egypt's energy network, aimed at reinforcing the country's role as a regional hub for energy and liquefied natural gas (LNG). Sisi praised Eni's role in supplying about 40 percent of Egypt's natural gas output and highlighted the company's support for local development projects. Descalzi reaffirmed Eni's commitment to Egypt and commended government efforts to facilitate investment and strengthen domestic production and exports. The meeting also covered Eni's intention to invest $8 billion over the next five years – in coordination with partners – targeting both development of existing gas fields and new exploration projects. Additional potential investments in mining were also noted. The two sides also stressed the importance of long-term collaboration and sustainable energy development, with Sisi emphasising the government's commitment to timely payments for foreign partners to support continued growth in the sector.
