Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawy met with Eni Chief Executive Claudio Descalzi on Sunday to discuss accelerating exploration and production programmes and advancing plans to import Cypriot gas through Egyptian infrastructure. According to a ministry statement, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the ADIPEC 2025 energy conference in Abu Dhabi, marking the start of a series of bilateral talks between Badawi and global energy executives. Badawy praised the decades-long partnership between Egypt and Eni, the country's largest foreign energy investor, and said the two sides reviewed efforts to speed up development in the company's Mediterranean concessions. He highlighted the importance of the accelerated drilling programme at the Zohr field, which currently supplies about a quarter of Egypt's domestic gas output, noting that recent drilling results have boosted production. The minister reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to maintaining a competitive investment climate and addressing challenges to support higher output. As part of Egypt's push to strengthen its role as a regional energy hub, Badawy welcomed a recent agreement enabling the transport of Cypriot gas through Egyptian facilities. He said Egypt is ready to receive gas from Cyprus's Cronos Field, adding that coordination between the two countries and project partners continues under the support of Presidents Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Nikos Christodoulides. Badawy also invited Descalzi to attend the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2026) as a guest of honour and keynote speaker. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English
