Egypt is implementing a national silos project to boost its grain storage capacity to nearly six million tons as part of efforts to strengthen food security, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly announced on Monday. Speaking at the first Global Leaders' Summit for Combating Hunger and Poverty in Doha, Madbouly said the project includes building around 50 new silos across 17 governorates, adding 1.5 million tons of new storage capacity. He said the initiative is part of Egypt's broader strategy to maintain strategic reserves of wheat and grains and support small-scale farmers engaged in wheat cultivation. Madbouly added that Egypt has also launched the Luxor Coordination Centre in partnership with the World Food Programme to promote resilience, innovation, and knowledge-sharing in Upper Egypt. In addition, Egypt is working with the African office of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) to host a global grain storage hub in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), he said.
