Egypt's Minister of Labour Mohamed Gobran announced that Thursday, October 9, will be a paid official holiday for private sector employees covered by Labour Law No. 14 of 2025, instead of Monday, October 6, marking the Armed Forces Day. In a statement on Sunday, Gobran explained that employers may require employees to work on this day if work conditions necessitate it. In such cases, workers are entitled to double pay in addition to their regular wage or, alternatively, another day off upon a written request recorded in their personnel file, in line with the Labour Law. The ministry of labour issued Circular No. (19) of 2025 to formalise the paid holiday, implementing Article (129) of the law and ensuring the unification of official holidays across all state sectors in line with their social and national purpose. The minister also instructed heads of central administrations and directorate managers to circulate and enforce the circular across workplaces and production sites.
