Egypt's Minister of Labour Mohamed Gobran has met with a team from the International Labour Organisation's (ILO) Cairo office to discuss the Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) and to draft an implementation plan for the four-year initiative. The programme aims to promote decent work across all production and labour sites in line with Egypt's Vision 2030 and the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2023-27. The ILO delegation included experts in international labour standards, employment and wages, gender, and skills development. Gobran highlighted recent developments in Egypt's labour sector, including President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's ratification of the new labour law—approved by parliament—which aims to enhance job security for millions of workers while supporting investment and aligning with international labour standards. He further underlined the role of the Supreme Council for Social Dialogue, bringing together the government, employers, and workers, in fostering a balanced and decent work environment. The minister welcomed continued cooperation with the ILO and its technical support. Moreover, Gibran noted President El Sisi's directive on Labour Day to finalise the draft law on domestic workers and launch a societal dialogue, stressing Egypt's commitment to protecting vulnerable workers.
