Egypt plans to raise artificial intelligence's contribution to GDP to 7.7 per cent by 2030 under a national strategy that focuses on infrastructure, startups, regulation, applications, and training 30,000 specialists, Communications Minister Amr Talaat said Tuesday. Speaking at an event marking the 21st anniversary of the Eitesal Association, Talaat said the strategy also aims to boost public awareness of AI tools as part of Egypt's broader technology push. He noted that outsourcing exports surged 80 per cent in the past three years to $4.3 billion in 2024, with the workforce growing 70 per cent to more than 160,000 specialists and the number of companies in the sector tripling to over 180. Egypt's mobile phone industry is also expanding, Talaat said, with 14 factories producing 3.5 million units in 2024 and targeting 9 million in 2025, alongside efforts to increase local content and exports. The minister added that Egypt University of Informatics, Africa's first specialised IT and communications university, graduated its first cohort this year, offering dual degrees with leading international institutions.
