Egypt's Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib on Sunday held a meeting with Japan's Ambassador to Egypt IWAI Fumio to discuss prospects for strengthening bilateral economic and investment ties. Talks reviewed the outcomes of El-Khatib's recent visit to Japan, which resulted in new Japanese investments in Egypt. Several firms have already started practical steps, including acquisitions, fresh capital injections, and adding new production lines to boost exports. El-Khatib highlighted Egypt's competitive advantages across sectors and stressed the government's efforts to ease procedures for Japanese investors. Most challenges facing Japanese companies in Egypt have been resolved, with work under way to tackle remaining obstacles. Ambassador Iwai praised Egypt's measures to improve the investment climate, saying they encourage more Japanese businesses to enter the market. He also welcomed Egypt's participation in the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Yokohama, led by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, under the theme "Co-Creating Innovation for Solutions with Africa".
