Egypt's Minister of Public Business Sector Mohamed Shimi met on Wednesday with Japan's Ambassador to Cairo IWAI Fumio to discuss boosting economic and investment cooperation. Shimi highlighted Egypt's commitment to strengthening economic, trade, and investment ties, noting the ministry's wide-ranging portfolio across textiles, chemicals, fertilisers, mining, automobiles, pharmaceuticals, real estate, tourism, and hospitality. He said affiliated companies offer promising opportunities, with facilities for investors in technology transfer and localising industry. Shimi also pointed to efforts to revive El Nasr Automotive, now producing buses and minibuses, with preparations underway for passenger cars, reflecting opportunities in the automotive and feeder industries. Ambassador Fumio praised the progress in Egyptian-Japanese relations, describing Egypt as a key strategic partner. He cited infrastructure improvements, particularly in the New Administrative Capital, and reiterated Japan's interest in expanding cooperation. Referring to Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly's recent visit to Tokyo and the agreements signed during TICAD and the Egyptian-Japanese Business Council Forum, he noted Japanese companies are seeking to scale up investments in Egypt's attractive market.
