Egypt's Industry and Transport Minister Kamel El Wazir has met with Public Business Sector Minister Mohamed Shimi, Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk, flax farmers, investors, and manufacturers to improve the flax industry, an official report said. Enhancing Flax Production and Quality El Wazir said the meeting aimed to increase flax cultivation, improve yields and quality, and prepare the crop for use in textiles, ready-made garments, oils, paper, animal feed, and wood products. He emphasised coordination between ministries and private companies to support the full value chain, from cultivation to processing and marketing, to enhance the competitiveness of local products domestically and internationally. Industry and Investment Opportunities The minister invited serious investors to apply immediately for industrial licences to establish flax product factories. He stressed the need to increase staff in agricultural associations nationwide to survey cultivated flax areas, providing data for manufacturers to plan production quantities. New Flax Factory Planned by China's Kingdom The meeting reviewed plans for China's Kingdom Linen to build a factory in Sadat City on 50,000 square metres with an initial investment of $60 million. Construction will begin in September, with first production expected in October 2026 at an annual capacity of 4,000 tons of flax yarn. Farouk emphasised the ministry's commitment to moving flax into processing, adding value rather than exporting raw, while preventing fire risks in storage areas and activating agricultural associations. Suitable land for flax factories is being mapped for industrial licensing. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M.S.Salama
