Egypt has launched its first fully developed artificial intelligence system for early breast cancer detection at Baheya Hospital in Sheikh Zayed, as per a Cabinet statement. The system, the first of its kind in the Middle East, was developed by the Applied Innovation Centre (AIC), affiliated to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) in partnership with Baheya Foundation. It analyses mammogram images to provide accurate preliminary diagnoses, aiming to improve screening efficiency, reduce treatment costs, and raise recovery rates. The AI engine has achieved an accuracy rate of about 90 per cent and has been fully integrated into Baheya's technical infrastructure. The system has already been deployed at Baheya's hospitals in Haram and Sheikh Zayed this August, with continuous learning mechanisms in place to further enhance performance over time.
