Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reviewed on Sunday the country's overall water situation, including supply for agricultural projects and drinking water, as well as the status of ongoing projects, particularly those strengthening water infrastructure. During a meeting with senior state officials, Sisi discussed progress on the New Delta project and developments in the collection of agricultural drainage water for transfer to the New Delta treatment plant. The project aims to provide clean and safe water for agricultural investment in the New Delta. The president also reviewed the National Water Resources and Irrigation Plan 2050, titled "Water Security for All," which focuses on rationalising consumption, improving quality, developing resources, and creating an enabling environment. The meeting addressed the second-generation irrigation system, designed to enhance Egypt's water security through the development of non-traditional resources, improved management of existing ones, and expansion of digital management. The plan includes using modern technologies and satellites to monitor waterways, track clearance operations, and detect encroachments. Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam explained that the second-generation system prioritises water treatment through major projects such as the Bahr El Baqar treatment plant, the New Delta treatment plant, and the Al Mahsama plant. Sisi praised the ministry's efforts to support Egypt's water security, stressing the need to continue measures to rationalise consumption across agriculture, industry, and other sectors. He directed further investment in modernising the water and irrigation system, with greater reliance on advanced technology and smart water management. The president also called for the sustainable and safe use of groundwater resources. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M. S. Salama
