Egypt's Local Development Minister and Acting Environment Minister Manal Awad has announced the successful containment of a minor oil spill in the Nile at Luxor, Upper Egypt. The spill, reported by the Luxor Water and Wastewater Company, measured around 10 metres by 1.5 metres and was identified as diesel of unknown origin. The slick was immediately dispersed without disrupting water station operations. Awad said a full survey of the river, including tourist docks to the south, confirmed no further signs of pollution. She also directed a review of refuelling procedures for Nile cruise boats as a potential pollution source, alongside intensified inspections to ensure full compliance with environmental safeguards.
